Though cold has come and with it dims the sun
And greens and reds have given way to grey
For every dreary day so is there one
That breaks the clouds and takes the cool away

So oft in sleep dark thoughts abandon me
That in the night I find that I am free

I hear a whisper hiding in my mind
A quiet flick’ring seed of an idea
If only I could manage, now, to find
That which the seed would need to come to be

Such little ink-wrought wonders on a page
That spring to life in sunset colors bright
And characters from some forgotten age
Bring dance and music to a quiet night

As winter comes so will life’s madness cool
And, gathered ‘round a fire, we can break bread
And with our kin such fantasies unspool
As could not be imagined in one head

With fevered wanting I look in your eyes
As desp’rately I wish to hold you tight
Look now past all that makes up my disguise
My true, unfettered love is in your sight
Sonnet 14 – Ten things
And once with furrowed brow you asked of me,
What was it made me fall in love with thee?
For one, it was the starlight in your eyes;
For two, it was the moonbeams in your hair;
For three, your copper skin in the sunrise;
(Of course what first I saw was: you are fair!)
For four, it was the music in your laugh;
For five, the way you woke my thoughtful side;
For six, you were at once my better half;
For sev’n, the way you made me smile so wide;
For eight, I felt at once alive and true;
For nine, we saw above us the same sky;
For ten, as ne’er before, with you I knew
That in this life some walk, but we would fly.
Someday I know I’ll think of more to say;
I hope these truths suffice for thee today.
Memory rhyming
I’ve often dwelt in thoughts of other times
Of other places, far away from here
Of moments distant, yet so very near
And there, my memory begins to rhyme
3/3/2021 – Your smile
I walked without a sound
Went down a lonely street
And who there should I meet
But you
I quieted my lips
I opened up my ear
So better could I hear
Your voice
And though it’s been a while
You are beside me yet
With Fate I’ve won a bet
So ev’ry day I get to see your smile
Sonnet 13 – Partner
I once went walking on a starless night
And found myself completely, wholly lost
As shadows twisted off the edge of sight
And strange and fright’ning sounds did me accost
I thought to turn around and find my way
By following the footprints I had left
But hidden with the ground they did then lay
And I was there alone, of route bereft
But in a sudden burst there came a star
The brightest light that ever I had seen
Though I had walked and travelled oh so far
It brought me close, a place I’d not yet been
And since that day she shines e’er in my eyes
And darkness cannot drown me ‘neath the skies
