I want to smell salt
Feel hot sand between my toes
And smile at the sun
12/9/2023 – earth’s very end
If I had but the lungs of a giant
I’d run like the wind till I dropped
O’er every horizon and summit
Toward earth’s very end
12/8/2023 – ashes
I looked within the shadowed realm
That hides inside my addled mind
And looked for who stood at the helm
But little more than ashes did I find

I tire of the things
That I am told I should want
For they bring no joy

I’ve lived a thousand lives
And still nothing

An arm here, a mind there

A heart on the horizon
So that I am spread over all the earth

Rain drops pattering
While the sun peeks through the trees
The air crisp and cool

I yearn for things beyond my time and place
Where wonder marked the mind of every man
Where stars and oceans made the great unknown
