Boughs of fir
Colored lights
Crisp air and warm halls
Stew to warm my innards
Ale to calm my mind
A fire to turn death to life
And a blanket of snow
to dampen distant calls

11/29/2022 – a haiku
Ancient winds blow sand
From far-off lands to my ears
Eternal echoes
11/28/2022 – wine
Fruit of the vine, I’ll make you mine
Come, fill my cup t’the brim
Both white and red will slow my head
And set the lights to dim
11/26/2022 – eddies on a windless winter day
Why, when the air is frozen there
Above the fallen snow
Do eddies swift dance light and lift
The flakes to farther go?
11/25/2022 – thank the stars
Thank the stars for laughter
And for kind words
And for togetherness
Thank the stars for those who make us laugh
Who tell us kind things
Who make togetherness easy
Thank the stars for them
Before they’re gone
11/24/22 – a haiku
As the sun peeks through
The cold grey winter blanket
Bright life emerges
11/23/2022 – blanketing my aching heart
Bring me quiet
And a fire
Hot to burn away my fears
Hot to turn to ash my woes
Hot to make of my struggles a flame
And melt away
The fallen snow
Blanketing my aching heart
11/22/2022 – to find uncharted land
A wat’ry grave awaits the man
Who does not chart his course
And yet to find uncharted land
The man must maps divorce
11/21/2022 – a haiku
My mind often drifts
To places I have not seen
Not with this life’s eyes
11/19/2022 – the spaces between
Sweet music plays
In the spaces between
Where metal pops
And ice cracks
And air drifts through
