9/20/2023 – sings

On September 20, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A trodden land is silent
A forgotten land hums
An untouched land sings

9/9/2023 – star

On September 9, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A guiding light
Flickering far away
And just beyond reach
Ever and always in motion
Ever and always the same
Small and indistinguishable
Yet a gemstone all its own

A promise that tomorrow
It will remain there
Waiting to be seen

9/5/2023 – judged

On September 5, 2023October 12, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Let me be judged
Not by man
Nor by gods
Let me be judged
By the earth beneath my feet
By the trees that shade my paths
By the wind whispering in my ears
Let me be judged

9/2/2023 – be ready

On September 2, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Shadows lengthen
Across all the land
As the sun’s redeeming light
Retreats

Whispers grow louder
Upon the winds
As the warmth of summer
Diminishes

Yet the trees speak of winter
And the colors of change
That when the sun returns
They might be ready

8/30/2023 – listen

On August 30, 2023August 24, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Music whispers
At my ears
At my eyes
At my fingertips

Waiting to be heard
To be played
To be sung

Waiting to change me
To change the air
To change the world

If only I would notice
Would hear
Would listen

8/25/2023 – not easily

On August 25, 2023August 24, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

Always I wonder whether
New songs
New melodies
New symphonies
Can crowd out those in my head

And always I find
Old songs
Old melodies
Old symphonies
Not so easily forgotten

8/22/2023 – all/nothing

On August 22, 2023August 16, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

Noisome is the world
When the other residents
Tread heavily
Speak thoughtlessly
Act greedily
As if they are all
And the world, nothing

And peaceful is the world
Where the other residents
Tread carefully
Speak thoughtfully
Act selflessly
As if they are nothing
And the world, all

8/19/2023 – death/life

On August 19, 2023August 16, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

Death
Sinks low
Creeps wide
Finding crevices
Reaching outward
Till it finds a place to be
And things can grasp it
And things can use it
They begin to grow
They reuse the old
Make what’s new
Till what was
Becomes
Life

8/16/2023 – lying in wait

On August 16, 2023August 9, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Such color in the earth
All shades of brown lie there
Each life and death and in between
Each telling countless stories true
Each with the world’s potential stored
Within each smallest part of them

Lying in wait

8/12/2023 – creeks in a storm

On August 12, 2023August 9, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I hunger for
A meaning
I hunger for
That filling up
Of me
That electric truth
That rides along
Every artery
Like a million creeks
In a storm
