11/30/2022 – the season

On November 30, 2022November 28, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Boughs of fir
Colored lights
Crisp air and warm halls
Stew to warm my innards
Ale to calm my mind
A fire to turn death to life
And a blanket of snow
to dampen distant calls

11/25/2022 – thank the stars

On November 25, 2022November 25, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Thank the stars for laughter

And for kind words

And for togetherness

Thank the stars for those who make us laugh

Who tell us kind things

Who make togetherness easy

Thank the stars for them

Before they’re gone

11/23/2022 – blanketing my aching heart

On November 23, 2022November 16, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Bring me quiet
And a fire
Hot to burn away my fears
Hot to turn to ash my woes
Hot to make of my struggles a flame
And melt away
The fallen snow
Blanketing my aching heart

11/14/2022 – to you

On November 14, 2022November 9, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

To you:
The one who walks strong
The one who speaks gently
The one who thinks carefully

Who listens first
And speaks second
Who loves first
And hates seldom

Who brings me warmth
And meaning
And peace
And wonder

O, that I might give those things to you
To you

11/12/2022 – truest, most, best

On November 12, 2022November 9, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Hide me away
In the crevices of your heart
Where I am safest

Hold me there
In the warmth of your embrace
Where I am strongest

Keep me here
Beside the kindness of your soul
Where I am truest
Where I am most
Where I am best

11/8/2022 – nurture it

On November 8, 2022November 2, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A breath
Is the fire
That burns against the cold

A salve
Is the rain
That comes amidst the drought

Salvation
Is the green
That sprouts from winter’s melt

If only I can nurture it

10/31/2022 – worth the wandering

On October 31, 2022October 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

I have often wandered
And often wondered
Whether I have wandered enough
Seen enough
Heard enough
Been enough

Yet in my heart of hearts
I sense
I know

I wander
Not for an answer
But because the question
Is worth the wandering

10/29/2022 – the shadow

On October 29, 2022October 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

There is a shadow
Buried in my corners
Hidden in my nooks

Hidden from me
As I’ve hidden from it

Never stopping to wonder
Does it feel?
Does it fear?
Does it wish for my embrace?

Is it me?

10/20/2022 – grow and grow

On October 20, 2022October 19, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

The days grow short
The air, cool
And ‘neath the starless skies I marvel
That as all dies
The shadows grow and grow

10/17/2022 – all the sweeter

On October 17, 2022October 13, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

When it has been a little while
Since last I felt your hand in mine
Heard your heart beat
Saw the deepness of your eyes

I want for it all the more

And when I feel it
Hear it
See it

It is all the sweeter
For that little while
