With naught but stars overhead
The way is dark
But not lonely
With naught but stars overhead
The way is dark
But not lonely
Trudging through the rain
Seeking a quiet refuge
Where the sun can shine
Fragile glass shatters
And though its shape is no more
It has become sand
The sands swirl bright
And the glass glistens
As with each dropping grain
A moment passes
Hoary frost coats the grasses
And a chill air bites my nose
But to see the roses bloom in your cheeks
Brings warmth to my heart
Horizons beckon
Their light a brilliant promise
Of days yet to come
What have I seen that speaks to me
From mem’ry’s crowded mouth?
Eliciting a fierce response
That quickens through my chest?
If the ground beneath us
Spoke
What would it say?
What truths does the earth hold?
What bounties of tales and epics
What scars from battles long forgotten
What heartbreak, what joy?
In dreams there is a peaceful world
A quiet world
Where the heart slows
Where my mind lives free
Of the shadows that crowd my eyes
When they are open
