Today
I have but one wish
That I might soar
Today
I have but one wish
That I might soar
Awaken, o my heart
To fiery calls of brass
To all that lies before me
That I might face it well
The earth shakes
As memory trembles
And histories resonate
And all the steps upon the earth
That have ever been taken
Are at once forgotten
And never gone
Such sights have I seen
Such wondrous places
Such wondrous peoples
Why should I remain
Here?
The stars grow brighter
As the world around me fades
And the sky beckons
I woke from a dream so deep
I believed myself elsewhere
Elsetime
That the coming of the day
Brought not expected pain
But warmth
And comfort
Alas that I awoke
The morning with it brings
New hope
New promise
New, brighter sunlight
As the dark of night recedes
And the grief of yesteryear
Dims
The horizon is bright
It is unknown
Uncertain
Unmeasurable
But bright
A year of pain ends
And so another begins
Hope kindling again
Why, when the sun is gone
And the world quiets
And the shadows
Take over
Does my heart slow
My breath soften
To be at last
In your arms?
If you were a book
I would drink up your pages
Each a thousand times
