Bright blues and greens under the glow
Of sun in high midafternoon
Into the cool I dip my toe
And listen to the clear call of the loon

5/26/2023 – how often
How often do I think of you?
As often as the breezes blow
As often as the tree frogs sing
As often as the new sprouts grow
As often as the birds take wing
5/23/2023 – break the wheel
Above the crashing human sounds
Beyond the grey of block and steel
A different, brighter truth abounds
There where we go if we can break the wheel
5/19/2023 – with naught unwritten
In fits and starts of wisdom oft
The pen on paper finds its way
Till when you lift the pen aloft
With naught unwritten that you wished to say
5/13/2023 – the open eye
Bright with starlight is the eye
That opens to the earth’s wonders
5/10/2023 – so far, so near
I heard upon the summer wind
A message come from over hill
Of sunlight left unbound, undimmed
Where all is green and birdlings trill
I wondered at why I was there
Upon the wrong side of the slope
Living beneath the streetlights’ stare
With green reduced to a fool hope
Hungered, I wished to go beyond
To look upon the rolling fields
To walk under a yellow sun
Unfettered by its smog-cloud shields
Yet I could not; bound were my feet
In lies men had constructed here
Long ere I could have chose to meet
The truths beyond, so far, so near
5/5/2023 – canopies of green
If under canopies of green
You find me in the afternoon
Leave me to hear the evening breeze
And wonder at the rising moon
4/4/2023 – life’s cacophony
In quiet does the thawing earth
Speak truths from tongues of green to me
In loudness does it sing its mirth:
Life’s bright and free cacophony
3/30/2023 – bluest moonlight
Let bluest moonlight show the way
The one I might in wisdom take
If not yesterday then today
So that a sage choice I can make
3/15/2023 – to Summer
You are a mem’ry, yet you are
Not gone, here lost only to sight
Shining bright as the northern star
When we peek past trees to your light
Your warmth is near as the hearth fire
Your rhythm plays in ev’ry breeze
Your boundless love do we aspire
To give with such unhindered ease
Stay close beside us for a while
Though there’s much we can share no more
Let’s share one more laugh, one more smile
One moment like it was before
