The world around me swirls with fire and smoke
And all alive is screaming for relief
While man swaggers atop what he has broken
And finds not cause enough to fall and weep
The world around me swirls with fire and smoke
And all alive is screaming for relief
While man swaggers atop what he has broken
And finds not cause enough to fall and weep
A dream of flight takes hold of me
And thoughts of drifting through the sea
At one with all that’s around me
To unbecome a man and simply be
Amid the creeping boughs of cedar trees
I find a shadowed place to rest my head
Where verdant fragrances traverse the breeze
And mossy roots and vines make me a bed
Such color in the earth
All shades of brown lie there
Each life and death and in between
Each telling countless stories true
Each with the world’s potential stored
Within each smallest part of them
Lying in wait
A rhyme is when two things collide
And in their hearts agree
That close together they reside
Upon the same bright sea
That in their essence is the same
Light shining ev’ry way
So much they share, share all but name,
That ‘like they are, we say
For this I cannot but conclude
That when it comes to me
Naught else, I think, could be construed
Than that I rhyme with thee
In drizzling rain I feel the mud
Squeezing between my toes
The thunder rumbles overhead
And drops run down my nose
Such music as the atmosphere
Casts to the world below
Is more than I could write or sing
Notes solemn, and so low
If I could walk beside you e’er
I’d do it without thought
For you are like the very air
Treasure that can’t be bought
So haggard do I oft return
To home’s warm comforts and solace
I yearn for what’s beyond yon line
The one stretching along my sight
The one that reaches north to south
The one that promises me tales untold
Without you here within my sight
I fall upon a shadowed road
As if the whole world fell to night
And took back every sense it had bestowed
