9/22/2023 – the very firmament

On September 22, 2023September 20, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A shadow lurks in wait
On every shattered shore
Where avarice and hate
Have left no room for more
We trample and we steal
From earth and from ourselves
Seeking that golden meal
More trinkets for our shelves

But when it all is stripped away
And when the earth is dry and spent
We’ll find our gold is dun and grey
That we have killed the very firmament

9/19/2023 – all the land and every sea

On September 19, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I have not seen more than a speck
Of all the wide world’s scenery
And so I long to go and trek
‘Cross all the land and every sea

9/16/2023 – every shore

On September 16, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Let all the music on the wind
Sing bright and loud to every shore

9/15/2023 – but a man

On September 15, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I swing and heft my worldly tools
That they might make of all around
A place more like what came before
When they were but a dream, I but a man

9/13/2023 – eternally

On September 13, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I watch and wait for anything to pass
Some moment that would make it clear to me:
This is the truth that I can trust to last
This is the path I’ll walk eternally

9/12/2023 – wolf’s heart

On September 12, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A wolf resides within my heart
E’er threatening to leap and bite
To fight and tear my world apart
If I were to give in one night

9/8/2023 – not to dwell

On September 8, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A fiery heat within my breast
Calls out to all the living earth
Cries not to dwell amongst the rest
But in a place of trees and birds and mirth

9/6/2023 – greed and haste

On September 6, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Some days I weep for rocks and trees
Those blanketed in ash
Some days I weep for putrid breezes
From which I will dash
Some days I weep for oceans blue
Gone sour beneath the waste
Of man, ruled by “I before you”,
And so before the world, in greed and haste

9/1/2023 – lead me astray

On September 1, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

The reddened skies foretell a bloody day
And by and by I shiver for what comes
Such promises of wind and thunder’s drums
Threaten to take me and lead me astray

8/29/2023 – ashes

On August 29, 2023August 24, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I walk amongst the ashes of a place
Gone dry and cold from unbound fear and greed
