2/18/2023 – between the softest shadows

On February 18, 2023February 13, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

It is between the softest shadows
That hidden truths do hide

2/15/2023 – storied sights

On February 15, 2023February 13, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

With sudden fire my heart alights
And fills with ancient song
To hold so close to storied sights
It runs and leaps along

2/11/2023 – turning inward

On February 11, 2023February 2, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

When shadowed musings enter me
Unbid, with ill intent
I pause and wonder what they see
In me that can be bent

And to those parts I turn my gaze
And build upon their bricks
So that the sickly shadow-rays
Can never fit betwixt

2/8/2023 – guiding light

On February 8, 2023February 2, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

The horse hooves beating trouble me
As they come down the lane
Of mental pathways I can’t see
Amidst the foggy plain

I wonder what those drums portend
And when they’ll reach my sight
If they foretell my story’s end
Or tell of guiding light

2/4/2023 – let it go

On February 4, 2023February 2, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Why must my tired heart suffer so
For what it can’t control?

2/1/2023 – Fate

On February 1, 2023January 27, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

In turgid waters does the ship
Of my life make its way
E’er does the brine wash o’er and tip
My hull, to my dismay

No solid ground avails me
Nor wind blow straight and true
Instead it’s my ship sails me
No matter what I do

1/28/2023

When will the hoary shackles of
Life’s winter crack and fall?
When will I at last rise above
The muck that grounds us all?
When might the shadows of my thought
Recede as stars at dawn?
So that I’ll be that man I ought
To be, not one more pawn?

1/25/2023 – with wariness

On January 25, 2023August 16, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

It is with wariness I walk
Along this o’ergrown path
E’er watching in the shadows for
Vile biting, shadowed things

1/21/2023 – you, the sea

On January 21, 2023January 19, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

So little else amid this world
Could give such peace to me
As I in your arms still and curled
I, stone; and you, the sea

1/18/2023 – the plunging cold

On January 18, 2023January 11, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I walk upon a dark and frozen lake
Beneath a sky bereft of stars and moon
And wondering if each next step I take
Will bring the plunging cold more near, more soon
