A ship without sail
A beach without waves
A tree without root
A man without his heart
Such am I, till your return
A ship without sail
A beach without waves
A tree without root
A man without his heart
Such am I, till your return
The sky darkens
The earth cools
And all the world slows
But here
Hearths roar
Hearts quicken
Both with flames alight
Their warmth unbound
A fair and pristine desert
Of cool white
With naught but stars overhead
The way is dark
But not lonely
Salt fills the air
Gulls cry
Wind’s in my hair
Blue sky
The foam rolls along
And the sands shift
In a subtle song
And my spirits lift
The sands swirl bright
And the glass glistens
As with each dropping grain
A moment passes
Hoary frost coats the grasses
And a chill air bites my nose
But to see the roses bloom in your cheeks
Brings warmth to my heart
In dreams there is a peaceful world
A quiet world
Where the heart slows
Where my mind lives free
Of the shadows that crowd my eyes
When they are open
The cool air crystallizes
All around
And words grow still
Their rhythm
Arrested
But with them
The heat
Subsides
Oh, but to sing of days long past
Of stories long-known
And long-forgotten
Oh, but to know them deep
In my heart
To let my soul echo
In remembrance
