Wondering
If the ground felt the same
When first you stepped there
There is a comfort
In storms
A sudden solace
An unexpected peace
In the wrath of the heavens
Coming down upon a world
Oft undeserving of itself
In the quiet evening
As the wind drops
And the birds hide
And the little sounds of night
Whisper softly
I lay my head upon your lap
And listen to your breath
Your heartbeat
And it is a song finer
Than any of the world
Stretching shadows
Along the quivering grasses
Where the birds seek the clippings
And the wildflowers poke through
There is a hidden oasis
Within an unassuming speck
Of the wide world

Then wonder
What comes next
Let us fly
To another place
Where the air is crisp

Where there are few around
Where little would trouble us
And there breathe a while
And sink our toes deep
And taste the silence
That awaits us

Only movement
For the universe is not a boulder
And I not a stone
The cosmos breathe
As I breathe
And though in breath
I find stillness
It is but a movement
To bring me peace

By the apple tree
Where you ran and played
