So oft in sleep dark thoughts abandon me
That in the night I find that I am free
11/15/2021 – a haiku
The smell of warm green
Meets my long-deadened senses
And I awaken
11/13/2021 – a haiku
The horizon nears
Full of wonder and promise
Like the night’s first star
11/12/2021
The road is long and lonesome
The prairies wide and green
But on it we can own some
Of the untainted scene
11/11/2021
I hear a whisper hiding in my mind
A quiet flick’ring seed of an idea
If only I could manage, now, to find
That which the seed would need to come to be
11/10/2021
Hoary frost coats the grasses
And a chill air bites my nose
But to see the roses bloom in your cheeks
Brings warmth to my heart
11/9/2021 – a haiku
Horizons beckon
Their light a brilliant promise
Of days yet to come
11/8/2021
I have not broken bread with kings
And people of the court
But those for whom the poet sings
Are not of great import
11/6/2021
What have I seen that speaks to me
From mem’ry’s crowded mouth?
Eliciting a fierce response
That quickens through my chest?
11/5/2021 – a haiku
The sun rises high
But the shadows ne’er recede
Instead, e’er they shift
