The blesséd morning brings a warning word
Before even the gull rises from bed
A sign to see, for it cannot be heard
When deep as blood the sky awakens red
4/27/2022
Let breathless words define the heart’s desire;
Before the words, let not a thought pass by;
For in such unconcealéd speech breathes fire
That, once revealéd, cannot ever die
4/26/2022
Whither must I wander
To find answers
That fate has not yet
Availed me?
4/25/2022 – a haiku
The pages whisper
Of tales beyond memory
Old, fantastic myths
4/23/2022 – before my time
As I sit surrounded
Amidst wood planks
Crackled pages
Chipping paint
Tall trees
I wonder what stories they have seen
What lives they have witnessed
All before my time
4/22/2022 – an Earth Day haiku
Leaves are uncurling
The buds show their young faces
As Earth awakens
Happy Earth Day to all.
4/21/2022
The fireplace crackles ‘gainst the new spring chill
And hot smoke billows up into the clouds
Betwixt the cold and heat I say a prayer
For fickle sun to burst the cloudy grey
4/20/2022
There was a night some years ago
When I looked out to see
A ship sailing by my window
And calling out to me
To sail amongst the twinkling stars
Above the well-trod ground
Alas that waking often mars
A sweet dream as it’s found
4/19/2022 – a haiku
With a broken heart
And with my scars you found me
Loved me all the same
4/18/2022
Quiet do the leaves fall
Soft comes the snow
Breathless does the grey come
And hide away the sun
And though the winter’s quiet
Is deafening
It is not nearly so much
As the resounding orchestra
Of spring
