6/2/2022 – a haiku

The grasses grow high
As the skies endlessly weep
And all earth turns green

6/1/2022 – the dirt that is today

On June 1, 2022May 24, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

The babbling brook that runs along
The road that I call home
Does often sing a quiet song
When it thinks it’s alone

It sings of saplings growing there
Upon the river’s bank
So too it sings of cleaner air
Before the land so stank

And though it flows out to the sea
And passes much that way
First it laments of ‘now’ to me:
The dirt that is today

5/31/2022 – a world apart

On May 31, 2022May 24, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

I hear the birds chirping
Their babies squeaking
In a cacophonous harmony

Over all the cacophony
Theirs is a world apart
One where chaos
Is beauty
Discord, peace

5/30/2022 – a haiku

I seek out wisdom
Yet as moments hurry on
I remain unwise

The forest waits for no man as
Ever it grows and grows
And yet beneath its boughs there is
Unchanging character

5/27/2022 – ivory keys (a haiku)

Cool ‘neath my fingers
We make new life together
Briefly sung, then gone

5/26/2022 – visions of sailing

On May 26, 2022May 24, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

As the waves curl
And the wind sings
I see the sun sparkle in the distance

And though the hard ground
Is not there
And the waters rise
And fall

And though others
Are distant
And the trees
One color on the painted land

I am safe
Here

5/25/2022 – this burned ground

This burned ground
Hides life beneath it
Even as it speaks
Of death

Seeds whirl to the ground
Or ride upon blustering wind
They are a promise

5/23/2022 – morn’s grey

On May 23, 2022May 18, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Were I to wake some clouded day
And speak unto the sun
Would it come forward at my call?
Would morn’s grey be undone?
