6/25/2022 – the things uttered aloud

On June 25, 2022June 22, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A punishing, fast heat of words
Runs through the sweating crowd
As fell disquiet undergirds
The things uttered aloud

6/24/2022 – twirling shadows

On June 24, 2022June 22, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Bright music is playing
Yet I cannot hear it
For my ears
Are turned
Toward thoughts that do not subside
Twirling shadows that infect the corners
Of my mind

6/23/2022 – a haiku

On June 23, 2022June 22, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Flowers are blooming
And hot winds blow from the south
Yet I gaze elsewhere

6/22/2022 – nothing more

On June 22, 2022June 15, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I love nothing more
Than to put my head on your shoulder
And close my eyes

6/21/2022 – the blood upon my hands

On June 21, 2022June 15, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

I walked out on the sunburnt ground
And whispered to the breeze
Asked why it hadn’t come around
Brought scents from distant seas

It told me there was trouble out
Upon some distant shore
One I had seldom heard about
Nor cared very much for

And so the wind did leave me there
To blow in far-off lands
And careless I stand in this air

Unseeing of the blood upon my hands

6/20/2022 – a haiku

On June 20, 2022June 15, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

The sun’s beating down
And we are all pretending
That there’s enough shade

6/18/2022 – who I did it for

On June 18, 2022June 15, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I scrubbed clean my house
And the path to the door
And the stones by the path
And the flowers by the stones

And yet I wondered
Who I did it for

6/17/2022 – a haiku

On June 17, 2022June 15, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Take my hand in yours
Walk me down your life story
Teach me what is you

6/16/2022 – that I pass by

On June 16, 2022June 15, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I have wondered
When I’ve wandered
What secrets I might miss
What unseen truths might hide behind
The trees and stones and rivers that I pass by

6/15/2022 – guardrails in my mind

On June 15, 2022June 7, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

At the midway mark
I wondered to myself
Whether I ought to have taken another path
And then I recalled
That the branches of the path
Are infinite
The opportunities
Are countless

And the guardrails
Only in my mind
