8/11/2022 – a haiku

On August 11, 2022August 6, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I have not a care
For the things that glitter bright
Give me but grey stone

8/10/2022 – the muck that clings

On August 10, 2022August 6, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I wish to dream of simpler things
Than what I see awake
To leave behind the muck that clings
And my solace does take

8/9/2022 – to drink the sun

On August 9, 2022August 6, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

With a heavy heart
And eyelids like stones
And a head
Leaning for want of a bed
Of moss

I lay down upon
The forest floor
And stretch out my limbs
Till they penetrate the earth
And drink its bounty

And after a long while
That heaviness
Is lifted
And my spirit rises
To drink the sun

8/8/2022 – a haiku

Soft grasses may grow
With bright flowers in between
But first it must rain

8/6/2022 – pull me back onto the tracks

On August 6, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

Within the soft scent of your hair
And the warmth of your skin
Within your voice upon the air
And your wisdom within

I find a kind of solace, which
The world so often lacks
A peace to pull me from the ditch
And back onto the tracks

8/5/2022 – I thought of you

On August 5, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

I found a daisy

Along the path

And in pondering it

Thought of you

Your hair like water
Your eyes like the midnight sky
Your heart like to mine

8/3/2022 – in the quieter moments

On August 3, 2022July 28, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

It is in the quieter moments
That my mind
Is loudest

8/2/2022 – this world of steel

On August 2, 2022July 28, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short Poems1 Comment

I’ve often sung of far-off lands
And times long lost to myth
Of cities now beneath the sands
And men buried therewith

So often that I’m sometimes lost
Within this world of steel
Longing for rough stone unembossed
Hidden ‘neath earthly seal

8/1/2022 – a haiku

On August 1, 2022July 28, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

It sings high-pitched songs
Paints the sky with bright colors
All without a care
