10/7/2022 – a haiku

On October 7, 2022October 5, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A fall storm quickens
With shiver-inducing rains
Foretelling winter

10/6/2022 – a thought on the windowpane

On October 6, 2022October 5, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Heaven is not a place
But that moment
Surrounded by laughter
About a crackling fire
With winter’s chill but a thought on the windowpane

10/5/2022 – be a bore

On October 5, 2022September 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A frightful dream awoke me late
Last night ‘neath starless skies
I dreamt my pride I could not sate
Till I was Earth’s most wise

This fruitless task had driv’n me mad
Till wisdom distant laid
Such arrogance unfettered had
My modest mind unmade

And then I woke, in fear and sweat,
One of the crowd once more
Unsure of much with one thought set:
Let me but be a bore

With brightest aspect
Does the sun, late in the year,
Penetrate a cloud

Let the frost form
Out past my mind’s realm

10/1/2022 – a haiku

Jet-black rain-wet coals
Telling of a pain since passed
By minutes, or months

9/30/2022 – other us

On September 30, 2022September 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

In secret corners
Have we hidden
Lost in visions
Of other worlds
Other times

Other us

9/29/2022 – free of earthly bond

On September 29, 2022September 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Weeds tumble ‘cross the winding road
Beneath this starry sky
Where sweating men have their pains towed
Sweating men such as I

For at road’s end a promise lies
Of riches great beyond
For those men loyal, true, and wise
And free of earthly bond

9/28/2022 – a haiku

On September 28, 2022September 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Leaves overhead play
A dry and windy rhythm
As autumn arrives

9/27/2022 – to the beasts of earth and sky

On September 27, 2022September 26, 2022 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

With a little breath
You slow mine
With the peace in your eyes
You bring mine to close
With the softness of your heart
You let mine rest
As the winter is to the beasts of earth and sky
So are you
To all of me
