If under canopies of green
You find me in the afternoon
Leave me to hear the evening breeze
And wonder at the rising moon
5/4/2023 – a (May the Fourth) haiku
Let’s look to the stars
Imagine a thousand worlds
Full of joyous life
5/3/2023 – the same
If I could choose again
I would choose the same
5/2/2023 – wash me in mud
Wash me of old-begotten woes
And cut my storied locks
Set mud and sand between my toes
And toss the rotted socks
5/1/2023 – a haiku
Hurried sprouts spring high
With suddenness at the sun
To see it at last
4/29/2023 – anything but now
Alas for me
That I circle so
In my mind’s recesses
Alas for me
That I trundle on
When I could stop and feel
Alas for me
That I wait
For what may never come
Alas for me
That I die
In living for anything
But now
4/28/2023 – a haiku
Wander there with me
Where what’s known meets horizons
That we might be free
4/27/2023 – let the shadows speak
Though oft I find I tremble for
The shadowed road ahead
Or that which on my heart so wore
And left my soul for dead
I find a solace in the night
A truth silent and free:
That if I wish to find the light
Oft I must let the shadows speak to me
4/26/2023 – the wishes of a young man
The seasons change, and still I want
For things that seemed so near
The wishes of a young man haunt
This older version’s ear
4/25/2023 – Icarus (a haiku)
I am but a man
Yet I yearn to fly higher
Rise above myself
