Give me wide oceans
Teeming with life deep below
Where earth’s secrets hide

8/5/2023 – so haggard

So haggard do I oft return
To home’s warm comforts and solace

A life with you
Is peaceful
Yet thrilling
Is right
Yet strange
Is fulfilling
Yet filled with a longing for the horizon

A life with you
Is sailing by the stars
Is flying through mountains
Is burrowing in the earthen warmth
In winter

A life with you
Would be a wondrous thing
Has been a perfect thing
Is everything
And more

A life with you
Will be something
Inexpressibly amazing

As the crops grow tall
And the days grow sweltering
I long for the sea

A maelstrom rages
Deep in my heart
Where swirling currents crash
And roar

I yearn for what’s beyond yon line
The one stretching along my sight
The one that reaches north to south
The one that promises me tales untold

Tell me of the sea
Where all is unchained and free
And wonders abound

Heavy comes the rain
Hot blows the wind
Stifling is the air
Yet beyond the veil
A brighter sun
A cooler breeze
A renewed earth

Without you here within my sight
I fall upon a shadowed road
As if the whole world fell to night
And took back every sense it had bestowed

The wind grows cooler
While the shadowed sky lightens
And rain trickles on
