9/11/2023 – a haiku

On September 11, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Give me to the sea
That I might learn its secrets
And lie in wonder

9/9/2023 – star

On September 9, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A guiding light
Flickering far away
And just beyond reach
Ever and always in motion
Ever and always the same
Small and indistinguishable
Yet a gemstone all its own

A promise that tomorrow
It will remain there
Waiting to be seen

9/8/2023 – not to dwell

On September 8, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

A fiery heat within my breast
Calls out to all the living earth
Cries not to dwell amongst the rest
But in a place of trees and birds and mirth

9/7/2023 – a haiku

On September 7, 2023September 7, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

As the air grows cool
And the days grow shorter still
I long for colors

9/6/2023 – greed and haste

On September 6, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Some days I weep for rocks and trees
Those blanketed in ash
Some days I weep for putrid breezes
From which I will dash
Some days I weep for oceans blue
Gone sour beneath the waste
Of man, ruled by “I before you”,
And so before the world, in greed and haste

9/5/2023 – judged

On September 5, 2023October 12, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Let me be judged
Not by man
Nor by gods
Let me be judged
By the earth beneath my feet
By the trees that shade my paths
By the wind whispering in my ears
Let me be judged

9/4/2023 – a haiku

On September 4, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Let us not labor
But build together a world
We can be proud of

9/2/2023 – be ready

On September 2, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

Shadows lengthen
Across all the land
As the sun’s redeeming light
Retreats

Whispers grow louder
Upon the winds
As the warmth of summer
Diminishes

Yet the trees speak of winter
And the colors of change
That when the sun returns
They might be ready

9/1/2023 – lead me astray

On September 1, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Free Verse, Short PoemsLeave a comment

The reddened skies foretell a bloody day
And by and by I shiver for what comes
Such promises of wind and thunder’s drums
Threaten to take me and lead me astray

8/31/2023 – a haiku

On August 31, 2023August 30, 2023 By adamcallahan117In Haikus, Short PoemsLeave a comment

I am e’er troubled
By time passing while I sit
Idle and inert
