Forever we’re mired in words
Some are true and some look it
But all just sound like words
514 – Heaven’s wrath
Heaven hath no greater wrath
Than sickness of the young
Stormy cloud is not so loud
As whimp’ring head, low hung
512 – The rain
The rain falls hard
As on a tin roof
It drowns out all
But thoughts in one’s head
Time, or not
There is no ‘time’
Nor ‘history’
For peoples through the years
Look in their eyes
And you will see
The same undrying tears
The landscapes morph
The buildings fall
But people stay the same
Forever lost
Each one and all
Is blind and deaf and lame
Things versus
Things grow
Things shrink
Things come and go as they please
Things move
Things stretch
Things are there and at once gone
They are not constant
Not strong
Nor grounded
Nor can they be relied upon
In short, they
Are nothing like
You, dear.
Ink on pages
I’m addicted
To ink
Ink on pages
I can’t get enough
Each day I need it more
And more
More ink
Hand in hand
Hold my hand and walk with me
Along the leaf-strewn path
Tell me all you have to tell
I’ll listen, rapt, to you
Teach me ev’ry corner of
Your ever-spinning mind
So I can with patience walk
And understand your tales
Walk with me through darkest night
Where moon and stars don’t shine
Let me take your heart in hand
And soothe its anxious beat
Though I am but human, I
Will love you best I can
Walk now with me; hold my hand
Life we’ll together face
Destiny’s mercy
I lost a bet with destiny
When I went down that road
There, destiny did punish me
For charging forth, unbowed
It said, ‘Dear child, you’ve trodden far,
But now you ought turn back;
Ere you your life lastingly mar,
Along this curséd track.’
At first I did resist, and plead
For destiny’s mercy
But soon I saw it knew my need
And hoped the best for me.
After the storm
After heaven’s wrathful song
After sky’s great tears
Greens awake all o’er the ground
Blossoms open wide
Drums from heaven fade away
Presence faintly felt
Sun peeks ‘round the bright’ning clouds
And glistens in the grass
May the Fourth
Stories told and stories writ
Here and near and far
Tales of love, courage, and grit
Among the distant stars
Teaching us of dark and light
Right and wrong and truth
Fight, they say, the greatest fight
Awake your inner youth
So we are transfixed, agape
One more earthly day
To that galaxy, escape
The one far, far away
