The mind’s wit oft lies
Confounding truths with reason;
Listen to wisdom
The mind’s wit oft lies
Confounding truths with reason;
Listen to wisdom
The constellations sail along
The black and lonely sky
Like music, bright and heav’nly song,
Their stories writ so high
A peaceful person
Is broken by cruelty
Rises a hero
And when the knight burst in
She found the dragon calm;
Unlike its violent kin
This one’s voice was a balm
“What ho, good knight, and why
Hast thou entered my cave
Beneath the starry sky
What treasure wouldst though have?”
The knight stood still, aback
And wondered at her fate
“This wyrm won’t fight, alack!
Is this some sort of bait?”
The dragon read her thoughts and said:
“Though, knight, my brothers breathe as fire,
And leave those like to thee all dead,
It is my heart’s but one desire
That we would sit here, befriendéd”
And so did sit the knight
Beside the dragon tall
They spoke of starry light
Together in the hall
To unstable quiet were they born
Surrounded by danger did they grow
The powers that be had
A vision each their own
But none asked them for theirs
None asked the children
War strikes like lightning
Innocents are forgotten
And who truly wins?
What good is the dawn
Without the night preceding
The day, following?
With summer wind comes summer heat
And humid, heavy air
And all unpleasantries so meet
Stripping your patience bare
We all act differently
Knowing there is an end
Knowing time has limits
Knowing someday we run out of chances
It gives us spark
Gives us purpose
Gives us urgency
Gives us some sense we are not alone
Yet some
Act as if theirs is the only end
Act as if others will not go on
Act as if what becomes of the rest matters little
Alas for them.
Quiet flutes playing
A somber, peaceful lament
Calming fearful hearts
