If you were a book
I would drink up your pages
Each a thousand times

To walk through quiet air and cool, soft snow
And hold you close to keep the cold away
To see the far horizon and just go
With you beneath the light of winter’s day
12/25/2021 – snowy morning
I woke beside my slowly-breathing love
And out the window spied the falling snow
The skies were grey and dreary up above
The floors were cold and creaky down below
But then I threw a log onto the fire
And sang a merry tune with loved ones near
And what a morning glad should then transpire
To push away all sadness, hate, and fear
12/24/2021 – a haiku
Sitting by the fire
Surrounded by love (and dogs)
Now just need some tea
12/23/2021 – waking
And in the morning
I will wake
And all that had nestled
In the dark corners of my mind
Will have retreated
For a moment
12/22/2021 – dreaming
Ah, but to look
Out the window
And see
The bright horizons
I have imagined
All my life
12/21/2021 – a haiku
Hurrah for snowfall
And for the deadened echoes
That it brings along
12/20/2021
To sally forth and face the foes
That morning with it brings
Might end the series of deep lows
’bout which this poet sings
12/18/2021 – a haiku
Sightless I had walked
Listened to any who spoke
But now I stride true
12/17/2021
I cannot wait, I cannot bear
The distance ‘twixt our hearts
The thousand miles of windy air
Reduces me to parts
But soon I know you will return
And all be set aright
And all within me once more burn
For you this blessed night
