The earth shakes
As memory trembles
And histories resonate
And all the steps upon the earth
That have ever been taken
Are at once forgotten
And never gone

1/7/2022 – a haiku
I am like to skies
Within me lie countless lights
So close, and yet far
1/6/2022
With little left of laughter my tears fall
Upon the brittle seeds in winter’s vise
And freeze amidst the grass, no longer tall
But cool and brown–
–the temper of the wise
1/5/2022
Such sights have I seen
Such wondrous places
Such wondrous peoples
Why should I remain
Here?
1/4/2022 – a haiku
The stars grow brighter
As the world around me fades
And the sky beckons
1/3/2022
I woke from a dream so deep
I believed myself elsewhere
Elsetime
That the coming of the day
Brought not expected pain
But warmth
And comfort
Alas that I awoke
1/1/2022 – renewal
The morning with it brings
New hope
New promise
New, brighter sunlight
As the dark of night recedes
And the grief of yesteryear
Dims
The horizon is bright
It is unknown
Uncertain
Unmeasurable
But bright
12/31/2021 – a haiku
A year of pain ends
And so another begins
Hope kindling again
12/30/2021
As my heart flutters with remembered hurt
And so my eyes recall the curséd scene
My body lights with energy, alert
I am not where I am, but where I’ve been
12/29/2021
Why, when the sun is gone
And the world quiets
And the shadows
Take over
Does my heart slow
My breath soften
To be at last
In your arms?
