I walk with two eyes
Yet when I gaze past this world
I find I am blind

Let me stand upon a warmer ground
With soft earth between my toes
Grasses tickling my soles
As verdant odors fill me

On fire-lit walls the shadows dance and bend
Alive for moments that the flames create
And down the walls the shadows slowly wend
As roaring flames, to embers turned, abate

Little growth there is
Without an obstacle to grow over
3/15/2022 – a haiku
Let me again breathe
The free air of the mountains
Cool, quiet, and clean

I have walked far
And though the shoes upon my feet
Have worn
Have changed
And though the skin upon my soles
Has calloused
Broken
Healed
And though the ground beneath me
Is everywhere different
Soft, hard
Cool, hot
Barren, verdant
The earth remains
And ever will
3/12/2022 – a haiku
I long for far shores
With sands of white, green, and black
The sea like bright gems

At last the wayward sun has shown its face
And lit the grey, dead ground with beams of life
Would that it never went away again
And stayed instead never far from my gaze

Such joy you bring
With bark, sniff, and snuggle
And I only wish
You could stay forever
But we have such time yet
With many forevers in between
3/9/2022 – a haiku
If the wind is breath
Is it whispering to us?
Is the rain its tears?
