Full cups
Full coffers
Full shelves
Full drawers
Full pockets
Full closets
But no love
No life at all
Full cups
Full coffers
Full shelves
Full drawers
Full pockets
Full closets
But no love
No life at all
Have I not
Proven myself?
Have I not
Done what is necessary?
Have I not
Gone above and beyond?
I believe I have
They say I have not
Questions ever flow
Answers seldom come
And yet so oft we say we know the truth
Green, green
The world smells of green
The blossoms are dewed
The buds shift along with the wind
The old flies away
The new takes its place
And the world smells of glorious green
Was walking down the way
When to me great surpray
I came across a wee canine-ish lad
I kissed and reached me hand
When off across the land
I heard a great commotion; I’d been had!
It was a nasty trick!
The wee canine-ish prick
Had brought along his pack of mangy mates!
Surrounded now am I
A barking party by
And though I run they follow through me gates
Inside, I lock the door
But ‘las, ‘twere not before
The pups went round and came in through the back!
So now I’ve fam’ly got—
Though, by my choice, ‘twere not—
If even they are just a rowdy pack.
How much until it breaks?
And what else can it take?
What happens when it reaches the last height?
Will it be quietlike?
Or like a thunderstrike?
Will we be here to see the final fight?
Spinning round
Falling down
Lost in twisted words
‘Right’ is a funny thing
Some claim to know it well
While others call its value meaningless
The sureheaded e’er sing
That their truth-bells do knell
That any other way is evil’s kiss
And from the other side
Rebukes come ever loud
‘Those first ones have it backwards; they are wrong!’
Reality’s untied
But truth remains unbowed
Known to so few that none will hear its song.
We are Rome.
Huge, unhinged
Powerful, unfettered
Spread too far and too wide
Lost in our own trappings
Too blind to foresee
Our own demise
We are Rome.
A great empire
The likes of which
The world has never seen
Spread to the four corners
Known by all the world
Except those who
Live right here
We are Rome.
Going along faster
Than we can maintain
Pushing, ever pushing out
Against our fellow earthlings
Never questioning ourselves
Nor what we’re capable of
And not capable of
We run far too fast
And never slow
Never listen
We are Rome.
Inspired by the words of Gregg Popovich.
Frustration piles on empty pittances
Some promise of an easy fix is made
Yet never will you know what silence is
Without knowing to calm when you’re afraid
You howl and yip, destroying all you can
You pull apart the things we’ve built for you
If only I could know the prior man
Who did neglect you and make you so blue
I can’t make any promises you’ll hear
Or rather that you’d ever understand
But for a moment lend to me your ear
And know these heart-writ words that I have penned:
You soon will know that from you I won’t leave
That this time, love is permanent and true
And to my arms you’ll your sweet self so heave
Knowing at once and e’er that I love you.
