Let us settle in
And listen to the crickets
Chirping in the night

At last the air cools
As nature’s babes grow taller
Wary of the fall

Here at the world’s edge
We peer off t’ward the unknown
Our eye-fires kindling

Let us collect leaves
And with them make a rainbow
Earth reflecting sky

Lay me by water
Somewhere under shady trees
They can sing to me

The heat has broken
And the breeze is at last cool
Whispering to me

In stillness we wait
For a bright sign from without—
Might it be within?

In ways uncounted
You have brought light to my life
Bright and bold and strong

My temper rises

At the evils of others

But nature beckons

I have not a care
For the things that glitter bright
Give me but grey stone
