My mind often drifts
To places I have not seen
Not with this life’s eyes

Quick flows the water
As the snow falls, melts; falls, melts
In autumn’s last breath

Return to my arms
That I might never let go
And you ever stay

The last autumn warmth
Diminishes like the sun
Dipping west to sleep

You shift closer yet
Your skin touches mine; my heart
Quickens, unbidden

Quick blows winter’s wind
Taking the colors with it
Leaving the stillness

Give me pen and pad
Let me make with them a world
Like none before seen

Bright fire covers ground
An autumn song writ by trees
That will fade to snow

Hold me by the fire
Help me burn it all away
Let us burn yet more

I long for warm sands
Coastal creatures chittering
To breathe salt-tinged air
