If I had but the lungs of a giant
I’d run like the wind till I dropped
O’er every horizon and summit

I looked within the shadowed realm
That hides inside my addled mind
And looked for who stood at the helm
But little more than ashes did I find

I’ve lived a thousand lives
And still nothing

I find myself in fragments
An arm here, a mind there
An ear to the wind
A heart on the horizon
So that I am spread over all the earth
Waiting for I know not what

I yearn for things beyond my time and place
Where wonder marked the mind of every man
Where stars and oceans made the great unknown

Give me the sun
That I might see
Give me the moon
That I might howl
Give me the stars
That I might wonder
Give me the cosmos
That I might be

The dark’ning skies cruelly offend
When they from us the stars conceal

Disquiet haunts my waking mind
Until my eyes are closed once more
And shadows ebb a while at last

My heart aches for something I cannot see
