I ache for all the times and places where
The world is not so fast, not so cruel
Where I could breathe the pure and untouched air
The earth not yet undone by kings and fools

12/27/2023 – what’s near
As if in peaceful slumber do I sit and listen well
To all the sounds about me that I often fail to hear
The music of the forest and the somber notes that knell
When we turn our ears to all but what’s near
12/26/2023 – weight
Speak not to me of riches or
The weight of ordered life
12/23/2023 – the days lengthen
High my spirit rises
At the coming dawn
That approaches sooner
With each passing night
12/22/2023 – songs in the quiet
I owe you two again!
Untrusting of the molded walls of man
I walk amidst the tall, unspeaking trees
And in the quiet find song louder than
All choirs and bells that ride upon the breeze
12/19/2023 – none have seen
Race me to the edge of the world
Where there is wonder
And mystery
And a new horizon
None have seen
12/16/2023 – and be
I long for little more than to lie down
Amidst the whistling grasses ‘neath the sun
Hidden from every ear and prying eye
Where I can watch and hear and smell and be
12/15/2023 – the busyness of business
The busyness of business wears on me
Its promises all fail to set me free
12/13/2023 – amidst the fallen snow
The winter chill arrests me so
I’m lost amidst the fallen snow
12/12/2023 – but not the world
Take my eyes, but not the sunset
Take my ears, but not the birds
Take my hands, but not the grasses
Take me all, but not the world
