The birds chirp and chitter
As the sun peeks out
And the wind blows brisk and wild
Bringing word of change to come
And the leaves and petals
Listen
As do I

6/25/2022 – the things uttered aloud
A punishing, fast heat of words
Runs through the sweating crowd
As fell disquiet undergirds
The things uttered aloud
6/24/2022 – twirling shadows
Bright music is playing
Yet I cannot hear it
For my ears
Are turned
Toward thoughts that do not subside
Twirling shadows that infect the corners
Of my mind
6/22/2022 – nothing more
I love nothing more
Than to put my head on your shoulder
And close my eyes
6/21/2022 – the blood upon my hands
I walked out on the sunburnt ground
And whispered to the breeze
Asked why it hadn’t come around
Brought scents from distant seas
It told me there was trouble out
Upon some distant shore
One I had seldom heard about
Nor cared very much for
And so the wind did leave me there
To blow in far-off lands
And careless I stand in this air
Unseeing of the blood upon my hands
6/18/2022 – who I did it for
I scrubbed clean my house
And the path to the door
And the stones by the path
And the flowers by the stones
And yet I wondered
Who I did it for
6/16/2022 – that I pass by
I have wondered
When I’ve wandered
What secrets I might miss
What unseen truths might hide behind
The trees and stones and rivers that I pass by
6/15/2022 – guardrails in my mind
At the midway mark
I wondered to myself
Whether I ought to have taken another path
And then I recalled
That the branches of the path
Are infinite
The opportunities
Are countless
And the guardrails
Only in my mind
6/13/2022 – fill again with thee
The moment that you walked beyond
The limits of my sight
Even as our unearthly bond
Blazed in my heart as light
I wept for that you were not near
No longer in my reach;
Unbidden rose that boundless fear
Upon my hopes, a leech
Yet still the light shines in my soul
Unseeing do I see
And know that soon my heart’s deep hole
Will fill again with thee
6/11/2022
I sigh a bit and die a bit
Each time I walk that road
To tread upon an unloved yon
Does my soul thus erode
