Their shadows dance along the ground
As to and fro they sway
And ‘cross the grass without a sound
They walk throughout the day

9/27/2023 – the glade
The mosses grow and vines creep in
And all perfections fade
To beauty of the true and flawed
The simple rightness of a forest glade
9/26/2023 – become
I could change the world
I could shake foundations
I could break and trample
I could set fires
But what would I become?
9/23/2023 – not by us
The earth below breathes
Rumbles
Sputters
Trembles
The earth below speaks
Through the air
Through the grasses
Through the trees
The earth below is heard
By the animals
By the winds
By the oceans
But not by us
9/22/2023 – the very firmament
A shadow lurks in wait
On every shattered shore
Where avarice and hate
Have left no room for more
We trample and we steal
From earth and from ourselves
Seeking that golden meal
More trinkets for our shelves
But when it all is stripped away
And when the earth is dry and spent
We’ll find our gold is dun and grey
That we have killed the very firmament

A trodden land is silent
A forgotten land hums
An untouched land sings
9/19/2023 – all the land and every sea
I have not seen more than a speck
Of all the wide world’s scenery
And so I long to go and trek
‘Cross all the land and every sea

Let all the music on the wind
Sing bright and loud to every shore
9/15/2023 – but a man
I swing and heft my worldly tools
That they might make of all around
A place more like what came before
When they were but a dream, I but a man
9/13/2023 – eternally
I watch and wait for anything to pass
Some moment that would make it clear to me:
This is the truth that I can trust to last
This is the path I’ll walk eternally
