One day for quiet
A book, some tea by the fire
Smiling loved ones near

12/23/2023 – the days lengthen
High my spirit rises
At the coming dawn
That approaches sooner
With each passing night
12/22/2023 – songs in the quiet
I owe you two again!
Untrusting of the molded walls of man
I walk amidst the tall, unspeaking trees
And in the quiet find song louder than
All choirs and bells that ride upon the breeze
12/21/2023 – a haiku
On this longest night
Let us rest for just a while
Not longing for dawn
12/20/2023 – all achieved in light
Many of us living in the earth’s northern reaches struggle at this time of year, myself included. Here’s hoping you all are well. Remember: after tomorrow, the days will grow longer again.
I walk beneath the shadowed winter sky
In search of something lost, gone with the sun
Yet naught alive or vibrant meets my eye
And all achieved in light is now undone
12/19/2023 – none have seen
Race me to the edge of the world
Where there is wonder
And mystery
And a new horizon
None have seen
12/18/2023 – a haiku
Sunlight streams o’er me
And I inhale all its rays
So becoming light
12/16/2023 – and be
I long for little more than to lie down
Amidst the whistling grasses ‘neath the sun
Hidden from every ear and prying eye
Where I can watch and hear and smell and be
12/15/2023 – the busyness of business
The busyness of business wears on me
Its promises all fail to set me free
12/14/2023 – a haiku
Something sings to me
Though I know not whence it comes
And I grow lighter
